One hundred and two days of fire

Before dawn on the last day of February, American and Israeli aircraft opened a war that has never been formally declared. The first strikes killed Iran's Supreme Leader and most of his Defense Council in one night. Iran hit back within hours, at Tel Aviv, at the Fifth Fleet, at airports, embassies and tankers across seven countries. A ceasefire held through April and May. It broke this month. This page maps every documented strike of the war from both sides, using the casualty claims each side has published, including where those claims disagree.

Three wars in one

The war has moved in three distinct phases. Click one to filter the map and the log below.

Phase I

The decapitation

28 FEB – 8 MAR

Operation Epic Fury opens with strikes on the Supreme Leader's compound, killing Ali Khamenei and the assembled Defense Council. Iran answers across the Gulf within hours. The deadliest single strike of the war, a school in Minab, falls on the first night.

Phase II

The Gulf under fire

9 MAR – 31 MAR

The war turns into attrition. Oil terminals at Kharg Island and South Pars are struck, tankers are attacked at sea, and missiles reach Cyprus, Turkey and Azerbaijan. More than fifty senior Iranian officers and officials are killed in targeted strikes.

Phase III

The broken ceasefire

1 APR – PRESENT

Two months of fragile quiet while negotiators argue over the Strait of Hormuz and enriched uranium. On 1 June it breaks. US jets hit Iranian military sites, Iranian missiles hit Kuwait and Bahrain, and drones go after the shipping lanes. Kuwait City counts one dead and 63 wounded.

Every documented strike from both sides. Marker size scales with reported deaths. Most strikes killed no one, or no figure was ever reported, so a handful of large circles carry most of the toll. Click a marker for details.

Pace and cost

Strike activity nearly stops for two months, then returns in the first week of June. The death toll depends on who is counting. Where sources disagree, the chart shows the full range instead of picking a number.

Strike events per day

Stacked by attacker. The gap is the April and May ceasefire, broken on 1 June.

Reported deaths by nationality · log scale

Bars run from the lowest to the highest credible claim. Iran's health ministry says 3,468. US and Israeli estimates run past 6,000.

Six strikes that defined the war

28 FEB · TEHRAN · US–ISRAEL

The night the Defense Council died

The opening minutes of the war killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the IRGC commander-in-chief, the armed forces chief of staff and the defence minister, most of them in one room. His son Mojtaba, named successor on 8 March, has not been seen in public since.

28 FEB · MINAB · US–ISRAEL

The school at Minab

The deadliest single strike of the war hit the Shajareh Tayyebeh school, which was reportedly sited near a military facility. Most of the dead were schoolgirls. No party disputes that the building was a school.

148–168 KILLED
1 MAR · KUWAIT · IRAN

Port Shuaiba

Iranian drones found a US logistics operation at Kuwait's industrial port and killed six American servicemen, the largest single US loss of the war at that point. The strike pulled the Gulf monarchies fully into the air defense fight.

6 US SERVICEMEN KILLED · 30 WOUNDED
1 MAR · BEIT SHEMESH · IRAN

Through the shield

Most of what Iran fires at Israel is shot down. On 1 March a ballistic missile got through and hit a synagogue and homes in Beit Shemesh.

9 KILLED · 65 WOUNDED
13 MAR · KHARG ISLAND · US–ISRAEL

Switching off the oil

The raid on Kharg Island, the terminal that handles about nine tenths of Iran's crude exports, was followed five days later by an attack on the South Pars gas field. The targets point at the money.

3 JUN · KUWAIT CITY · IRAN

The ceasefire breaks

Missiles at Bahrain and Kuwait, drones over the shipping lanes, and a US counter strike on Qeshm Island, all while negotiators were due in Washington the next morning. Kuwait's airport closed. Its foreign ministry called the attack "a flagrant violation of international law."

1 KILLED · 63 WOUNDED IN KUWAIT

Method & sources

Strike events compiled from Wikipedia's list of attacks during the 2026 Iran war and its underlying citations, cross-referenced against RFE/RL and NPR reporting on the June escalation and the Al Jazeera casualty tracker. Israeli strikes are grouped with American ones because the campaigns are operationally joint. Iranian proxy fire from Lebanon is excluded except where Iran claimed it.

Casualty figures are claims made by health ministries, militaries and monitoring groups that contradict one another. Where they disagree, the range is shown. Coordinates are approximate to the named city, base or facility. Coastlines are Natural Earth data. The page was compiled by hand on 10 June 2026 and is almost certainly an undercount, since most strikes in the record list no casualty figure at all.
